GAIYE GANPATI JAG VANDAN

GAIYE GANPATI JAG VANDAN: GANPATI VANDANA

NEW BEGINNINGS:

There are times in life when one’s most carefully laid plans take a toss for some reason or other. I happen to be among those distinguished people. The more detailed the plans, the less adherence to it possible.

But there is a saying (perhaps for people like me) “If your goals seem unachievable, don’t change the goals, change the efforts (or plans).”

So, despite the remaining Agatha Christie post being long overdue, I need to begin all over again.

And what better day than Ganesh Chaturthi for new beginnings and remember the Pratham Pujya before a new (or renewed) venture.

GANPATI VANDANA:

On this auspicious day few songs/ aarti/ bhajan dedicated to Pratham Pujya, Vighnaharta -Gajanan. The links to the songs are in their respective titles.

NON-FILM:

1. GAIYE GANPATI JAG VANDAN

It is the first bhajan in Goswami Tulsidas’s “Vinay Patrika”. I am not an expert in music, but as per information available the song is set in Raag Bilawal.

2. GAJANANA SHRI GANRAYA

Written by the very versatile and proficient lyricist of Marathi film industry, Shanta Shelke, the memory of this song dates back to childhood.

3. TUJH MAGTO MI ATA

Another song dating back to the days of cassettes and tape-recorders. In fact many given here were introduced this way.

4. UTHA UTHA HO SAKALIKA/
      UTHA UTHA SAKAL JAN

I only knew of the one sung by Lata Mangeshkar, but while looking for more information on this post the one sung by Asha Bhosle came along. It’s a traditional song and though the lyrics are different the beginning sounds the same (to me).

5. TUJHYA KANTI SAM RAKTA PATAKA

This one ranks my favourite among all the above. There is something energetic about it.

6. CHAJE RE CHAJE NAUBAT BAJE

Special mention to “Vividh Bharti.” Way back the radio broadcaster had a 15 minute program on songs in regional languages/ traditional songs. “Chaje Re Chaje” is a marriage song, and as far as I remember it is sung before beginning the due rituals seeking blessings from Lord Vinayak .

FILM SONGS

7. PRATHAM TULA VANDITO

Another one from the cassette days- those wonderful days.

8. DEVA HO DEVA GANPATI DEVA

Was there anything Rafi saab couldn’t sing. I may be a little biased, but his voice has the most enthusiasm and energy among all male voices. The picturisation is funny and tense at the same time. Who else thinks that Danny Denzongpa looks dashing in traditional dhoti, kurta, pagdi?

9. DEVA HO DEVA GALI GALI MEIN

Pictuirsed on Mithun Chakraborty and Madhuri Dixit it’s been a regular in Ganpati Festivites.

AARTI

10. SENDUR LAAL CHADHAYO

Aarti’s always sound best in chorus. It generates a feeling of elation and ultimate devotion.

11. SUKH KARTA DUKH HARTA

The traditional Marathi Aarti has been sung in many version. I am giving the one by Lata Mangeshkar here.

A PRAYER FOR EVERYONE:

This will be second consecutive year when Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated without its usual fervour and zeal. This, of course, is for the greater good. Until all obstacles are removed from this abnormal life, let’s be disciplined and follow best practices. And let’s let pray to “Vighnaharta” to remove all impediments from our lives, outside or residing within us.  Let’s seek blessings of the Lord of intelligence and wisdom to guide us through life and fill our hearts with content and joy.

    Hi Aditi,
Nice to see you back in action.
Sorry! Even if I was aware of today’s post, I’m late to visit.
A very good post to start afresh.
Knew all the songs, mainly the Marathi ones are very close to heart.
I hope you come up with the Agatha Christie post soon. I’m very eager to read it.
